So for years I didn't go to Dave's fresh pasta, because it's like, what the hell is inside this place -- Wet, unpackaged linguine, spilling out in every direction? Also, what is and who eats "fresh pasta"? Finally, am I going to be chastised for entering this business without a clear idea of what I want and how I want it?

Anyway, I went inside in a fit of madness and had an amazing sandwich, bought a couple pounds of delicious pumpkin tortellini, and just wanted to recommend this place to everyone else who may not have mustered up the courage to step into this extremely friendly establishment.

Dave was awesome, too, and held my hand through my first "fresh pasta" experience.

I love the image of Dave holding your hand.
For some reason i pictured the owner of the Midway.

The owner would do the hand holding. His name is Dave too. If you have never been to the Midway, i recommend you remedy this as you have done with the fresh pasta.

Their sandwiches are absolutely to die for, as well.

Dave's is awesome. Next time they have it there, I highly recommend you try the mufalletta.

for those not in the know, what is mufalletta?

It's an Italian sandwich that's popular in New Orleans/south Louisiana. It is also one of my favorite things on Earth.

You just made my day :)

Yes they do! And they're not bad. They don't have them every day, though, I don't think.

Also, they occasionally sell Zapp's Cajun Crawtators.

My biggest complaint about this place is it's not being open 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. Otherwise it is, like, my favorite store. Also I think it'd be awesome if they expanded into the adjacent storefront and started selling even more stuff which I would surely buy there.

They are going to expand into the Cybeline space. Horray.

Yes, Dave's is the best!! I make my own red sauce, so whenever I've got a fresh batch, we head to Dave's for some pasta. I've had their ravioli, tortellini and various cuts of pasta- all good. We also love getting the lemon-basil angel hair with the cream sauce to go with. Delicious.

I have yet to try a sandwich, though. I better get on the ball!

Ok, lemon basil angel hair sounds really delish. I've never been there either so I think I'll need to make a special trip for that alone.

I first went in there just before I moved out of Davis! Three years, and I hadn't gone in. I was glad I did, though: I got some gorgeous lobster ravioli and vodka sauce, and a lovely bottle of white wine. I was in the middle of packing, at the time, and wanted a nice "home-cooked" meal without actually having to do much at all in the way of cooking. Now that I think of it, I should go back there soon.

You don't know how bad grocery store pasta is until you've tried the fresh stuff.

DFP is great. Wish it weren't quite so pricey or I'd be there much more often.

It's surprisingly unpricey to get enough pasta for two people for dinner and some sauce (the sauce, of course, being enough for more than one meal).

Yeah, for years the window display of many cans of tomato sauce with faded labels turned me off, until I finally went in and had a conversion experience like yours.

Plus, free wine tastings! (at least in the summer, I don't know what the current schedule is)

It is a seriously awesome place!
Recommendations from an addict:
*the bacon they sell is delicious
*fresh mozzarella from a woman who also sells at the farmers markets
*they sometimes have brown sugar shortbread which is amazing
*you can get caramelized onions on your sandwich and they are for real - not stupid barely-cooked onions

Dave's wife runs the Lexington farmers market, so they are one awesome foodie family.

dave's is one of my favorite places in somerville...their sandwiches are seriously (seriously) delicious, their pasta is amazing and surprisingly reasonable in price, and i love that they have free samples of olives, breads, cheeses, olive oils, etc. ahhhh so good.

I haven't been to Dave's in awhile and I just remembered how much I love that place. The fresh cut pasta is AMAZING, plain, with sauce, whatever! The ravioli is great too. They always seem to have an interesting selection. Good stuff and glad they are expanding, perhaps for more sit-down space? Yum!
