bed bug exterminator

Help! I have bed bugs and need a reasonably priced exterminator that has successfully rid a home of bed bugs. If you've had experience w a good exterminator in Somerville or Cambridge. Please advise. Thank you!

thanks for adding that tag. I was looking for something like that. Unfortunately, there is no post on exterminators for bed bugs, so maybe this can be that post! Hopefully someone out there has a good experience to relate.

Also, these bugs are all over Somerville and Cambridge so I would urge people to think about that ANY time you wake up with a bite of any kind. Often you will get only one bite at a time over a long period of time. They don't bite all the time, all at once, unless you happen upon their resting place - so if you are ever bitten in the night, especially on shoulders, legs, neck, read up on bed bugs and check your entire place.

How would you know the difference between a spider bite and a bed bug bite. It was my understanding that you'd have several bites if it was bedbugs?

There is no way to know the difference except that you usually can't see what bit you with bed bugs. Bed bugs make tiny red bites, or bites that look like mosquito\spider bites. They only bite many times at once if they're living in beds w people. If they're in the building and not the room you may be bitten only occasion.

That is weird. I had a close encounter with several folks who had bed bug bites and they were quite different from how you described it. There were two types of bites:
1. Large white bites
2. Large red, welty bites
They typically were all over the body starting from one end to the next and had the typical "breakfast, lunch and dinner" bite marks -- three bites in a row as the bug gets interupted mid-feeding.

These were travelers I was working with, so we fumigated their things in plastic bags and washed all their clothing in hot water. It seemed to help.

I think of the large white bites as very similar to mosquito bites. The welts and multiple bites are typical of being in the middle of an infested room, like a hotel room. If bugs have been recently introduced to a home it can take a long time to get to that point, which is why I urge people to pay attention to all bites even if they aren't bitten many times.

A friend in NYC thought she was being bitten by mosquitos because she never had more than one bite at a time and never every day. Then one day she woke up with bites all over,-big red welts and in the breakfast lunch dinner patterns... they were now everywhere and she'd missed them because she didn't think about bed bugs when she got the single bites.

I just think it's better to catch them before they've gotten out of control. But that isn't the point of this post: I'm asking for help! So if you have any experience of this, please let me know a good exterminator.

I'm sorry this is happening to you! Bed bugs are terrible! Good luck finding a good exterminator and when you do please post it here for the rest of us.

Thank you. I hope no-one else gets them but in case they do Ill defibitely post an update. I plan to call the health dept tomorrow because they reccomend calling before trying to deal with it.

Friends of mine who had to get rid of bed bugs from their home last year used Best Pest for extermination, with success. (They recommended Best Pest to me, when I needed to get rid of other critters; that was a successful extermination as well.)

Not a nice experience... I had bed bugs before and it's really nasty, I can't stand bugs, even now it gives me creeps talking about it. New Orleans pest control (http://www.neworleanspestcontrol.biz) solve the problem for me, let's hope I won't have to see bed bugs again.
