Hi, everyone. Where does a person find home canning jars around here? I haven't seen them at Market Basket, or at China Fair, where I expected to see them. Anyone seen any? Is there a secret repository? EDIT: TAGS Hardware has a good off-season supply of canning jars. Thanks, everyone!

I went to get more jars last week, and they said they were not stocking any additional ones, and they were out of everything but half-pints. :(

That's odd; they always used to carry them year round.

Dunno, maybe I just talked to a flunkie. They were in the process of taking down their display a few weeks ago, though, so maybe they only stock a few flats during the off-season, and half-pints were all that was left? I guess most people do their canning earlier in the season than now. I wanted to do more pickled squash. :P

Oh, shoot! Like [livejournal.com profile] magid said, they used to stock 'em year round, I didn't realize that had changed. You might try asking them to order you some. I have a friend who found them out of the particular size she needed, but she was able to get them to special order hers.

They often run out at the end of the canning season.

Seconding Tag's in Porter. Or the hardware store in Inman Sq., though I assume that's not nearly so convenient.

As noted, Tags has them, but I've gotten them at China Fair within the past year, and I'd be surprised if they stopped carrying them. They're in a back corner in the basement. Did you ask one of the clerks?

China Fair has hundreds of them downstairs.

I've seen them in Shaws everywhere but I think I was in the seasonal aisle, so I don't know if they are still carrying them.

If not Tags then out of luck?

In the past when I've needed canning jars in winter I've needed to schlep to one of the Walmarts along 128. (Think that's the only stuff I've ever bought at a walmart, actually.)

I purchased a dozen mason jars from Target on Somerville Ave about 2 months ago.

Actually, Shaw's in Porter carries them, too. On the left-hand side of the far-end of the detergent aisle. Not a lot of them, but there's usually a decent selection.

Dickson Brothers in Harvard Square has them--I was there yesterday and saw them.

But I bet they have them at China Fair--they had them a couple of weeks ago when I was there, and I can't believe they've sold dozens and dozens since then.
