CD Spins no longer

I learned from yesterday's Somerville Journal blog that CD Spins has closed. When I walked by this morning, most of the merchandise was gone, but there were still a couple of full CD racks in front, and two or three more in back.

The lady at Davis Sq. Cleaners next door told me that the store had been open erratically in recent weeks, sometimes only for a few hours on Saturday afternoons. She is still holding a package for the store and has no idea if somoene will come by to pick it up.

The CDSpins website is no help at all, as it still claims to be a five-store chain. All five of the phone numbers listed there are disconnected, and I think the rest of the stores closed long ago.

Anyone know more?

Aw that's too bad. I liked the CD Spins in Davis (even if their DVD selection wasn't the greatest of late).

I thought the one in Harvard Sq. had gone "Under New Management" and with a new name and everything awhile back...

Mud Dog took over the JP store as well as the DS one a while back. They never changed the outside sign. The JP store flooded a while back and it never reopened. Recently the mud dog logo got put up in the window. I just noticed the fact that the DS one is closed.

I don't know who the landlord is, but the folks at Davis Sq. Cleaners probably do. Same building.

Also, any company that hosts its primary website on MySpace is lame.

The Somerville tax assessor's office also knows who owns the building.

Nope. For the past year all of my visa bills were listing MudDog and a phone number in JP even for purchases in DS. Look at the front of the store in DS and there is a huge dog logo there.

Not a surprise, they were never open and the store itself seemed very badly run.

I overheard one of the Mud Dog owners talking when the DS store was open. Seems they cut a deal with the owner of CD Spins to get their stock and take over the space in Davis. Then said CD Spins owner had a change of heart of some kind and things were likely heading into, and possibly still are, legal limbo.
