Jews in the Final Frontier
Guest lecturer: Joshua Breindel
Thursday December 11th, 7:30-9:00pm

From Vulcans to Batman, from robots to wizards, Jewish writers and actors have shaped every level of American fantasy and science fiction. Born into immigrant families, many Jews often had to hide their 'secret identity' behind bland public masks - a social reality that led to the birth of such famous superheroes as Superman, Spiderman and scores of others.

And that's only the beginning of the story..
Join us as we delve into the strange new worlds of F&SF texts and films as we explore their Jewish roots and continued influences in the present day!

Joshua Breindel, a fifth year rabbinical student at Hebrew College holds an MA in Jewish folklore. He is a talented storyteller and has been teaching Judaism and spirituality all around New England. This year he is acting as the spiritual leader of the Greater Jewish Community of Stowe, VT.

Can you do us one favor, and change the post to plain text? Using the Rich Text editor can result in text that some people can't read easily on their friends pages. (To fix, copy the text, change to HTML, then paste the text back in. You can then add back any bolding or italic that you want.) Thanks.

ok, ok, now I have actually paid attention to what I was doing, and formatted
the link as a link the old-school way, etc etc.

(I assume that the amount of formatting that appears as annoying HTML tags everywhere for your setup is fine when my editor is set to rich text but
I don't actually format any of the text, rather than cutting and pasting it from someone else's formatted text?)

re your parenthesized question - I think so, but I avoid the rich text editor so I'm not sure.

Was your icon picture, by any chance, taken in front of an Isaiah Zagar mosaic in Philly?

It was taken in Philly in a neighborhood where there were a whole bunch of murals to be found by wandering the streets, and it looks like it was one of Isiah Zagar's from what I see on his web page - but I was only visiting for a few days and didn't catch the name of the artist then.

Cool! I'm pretty sure it is one of his. There are some streets in Philly where almost every building has one of his mosaics--they're really awesome.
