At my brother's wedding all the guests were given a little cutting of some sort of evergreen tree, which they were asked to plant. I haven't the foggiest where I should do this. Does anyone know a place nearby where it would be legal and easy for me to plant it?

Thanks!

middlesex fells perhaps? i doubt anybody'd notice another evergreen in the lovely woods :) or maybe along the banks of the mystic, in some woodsy part.

You could sneak over at night and plant it where that willow was.....

I would not plant a tree on any public land. The tree could be infected with spruce budworm (http://na.fs.fed.us/spfo/pubs/fidls/sbw/budworm.htm), for instance.

Although the idea of planting trees in celebration of a wedding is a lovely one, I think that the potential dangers of planting trees of unknown species, which could be invasive species and/or be infected with serious parasites or blights, outweighs the goodwill of the thought.

Obviously, your brother has already done this, so all you can do now is find someone willing to plant it on their own land. But if anyone else is contemplating this in future, please don't: a gift toward organized reforestation efforts would do a lot more to protect the environment than distributing seedlings or similar.

I would be happy to have you plant it in my backyard, if you would like.

However, I think it's too cold now, you'd have to take care of it until spring.
