Snow Removal
Dec. 20th, 2008 12:05 pmDoes anyone know how much it costs to have a driveway, sidewalk, porch etc shoveled? I live in a multifamily house and may propose we all chip in for this service instead of waiting around to see who finally caves in, but I have no idea how much this costs. Any suggestions?

The only thing I'd look out for, is that sometimes if you contract with a service they may charge "per visit" which means that your walkway will be completely clear the whole time, but it may be overkill and expensive.

Date: 2008-12-20 05:46 pm (UTC)So. Landscapers often do private snow removal in winter. However, it can get pricy on an exponential scale with the amount of snow that falls. I have a large driveway, but it's rectangular and easy to clear. I was charged $35 for 1-3 inches of removal, and $70 for 4-6 inches. But once for a 2 foot snowfall, they charged me in excess of $600-800. Yup, almost a grand for ONE swipe with their pickup truck + plowfront. I refused to pay, came to a financial agreement with them, and got myself a really good snowblower for $1K the next year.
However, since sidewalk/porch wasn't in my agreement, I don't know how much they'd charge for that essentially manual task. They offered, but I declined (figuring I could handle a shovel, but needed help with my driveway.)
