Trash pickup on monday? I know there's already a post.. but are there any definite answers?

Ok, I apologize for echoing the post about snow and trash pick ups, but is there anyone with a clear yes or no answer about whether trash is removed during snow emergencies? I'm a (fairly) new resident, but it seems unlikely that the trash could possibly be removed when a 4 foot snow barrier is blocking the sidewalk...but then again, the trash crews are pretty hardcore..

Only problem with that is, trash pickup sometimes occurs before business hours.

I was thinking that, but I tried 311 anyway and got through just now (after multiple attempts/disconnects).

311 is available all the time....not necessarily during business hours. I have called at 9pm on a saturday night, 10am on sunday morning.

see, this, I think, is one source of a lot of the things that get posted here that maybe should have been 311 questions: most people don't know they're open all the time. I certainly didn't. Their messages generally say something like "For more information please call 311 during normal business hours." If they don't mean what is usually meant by the shorthand "normal business hours" they should just say what hours they are open.

What actual hours is 311 available? Does it vary? How are we supposed to know?

In my experience service is *reduced* outside of normal business hours -- they might not be able to direct you to the person who actually knows the answer to your question because that person is, duh, not at work. But they have some phone menus, can direct you to the police nonemergency number, stuff like that.

In general, I've put the trash cans and recycling bins on top of the snowbank and all has been well.
