The City of Somerville has lifted its snow emergency regulations effective 8 a.m., Monday, December 22nd. Residents parked in municipal or school lots during the snow emergency have a two-hour window in which to move their vehicles once the emergency ends. Cars still parked in municipal or school lots at 10 a.m. may be subject to ticketing and towing. Residents, landlords and business owners are required by city regulations to shovel their sidewalks but may not shovel snow into the street.

Somerville Public Schools are closed Monday.

For additional information, please call the city’s 311 constituent service line or visit the city's website at www.somervillema.gov. Thank you.

I see this was posted at midnight. I'm glad you didn't robo-call at that hour ;-)

I'll always have the $100 ticket to remind me not to park too close to an intersection.

Its not entirely clear to me why school had to be cancelled entirely if the snow emergency ended at 8 am. If people had to have their cars out by 10 why not have school start at 10:30? A shortened school day is a lot better for families than no school day. And it doesn't sound like the weather was a factor in cancelling school- just the parking.

Any ideas?

Hear, here! There wasn't a cloud in the sky at ten o'clock last night, whatever variant of snow that was falling from the sky yesterday afternoon ceased a couple of hours prior. Roads were clear. OTOH, maybe it took cancelling school to stop the crappy weather.

Good thing my parents were able to fly into Logan yesterday, albeit several hours late (plus the hour and a half it took them to open a frozen cargo door and unload the luggage) - someone would have had to burn another vacation day if they hadn't appeared...

Does anyone know about street cleaning? I'm parked on a road that has signs for street cleaning at midnight tonight. Is this still being enforced? hait

The Somerville311 post from Friday (http://community.livejournal.com/davis_square/1572275.html) says that street cleaning has been suspended.

Yea. It's my little reminder too not be too stupid with my parking in the future. :-/

I'd imagine the street will be somewhat difficult to clean with a street sweeper for the next few weeks.

The robo calls are still going out though -- I got one saying that Jay Street will be cleaned on the 24th.

Hmm, I never get robo-calls about street cleaning. Is that a separate service?

Not robo-calls it's from the street sweeper alert system.

anyone got a link to the appropriate section of city law that allows you to shovel snow ONTO the streets if the temperature is above a certain level during the day?
