I was going to wait and post this later, but since LJ might be shutting down I should probably post the relevant details early. I don't have a nifty flyer yet, but you can see the details without the pretty picture.

My Somerville based Avon Team is having a benefit concert on February 20th from 7pm to 11pm at the Dilboy VFW. If you are on facebook, you can see the details here. If not, here is a cut and paste from the Facebook event:

We are pleased to announce an awesome benefit concert for our Avon Walk Team!

On Friday, Feb 20th, from 7pm to 11pm at the Dilboy VFW Hall there will be a benefit concert to support our Avon Walk for breast cancer team!

The Dilboy is right in Davis Square and only a few minutes walk from the Davis Square red line T-stop (near the Rosebud Diner, at the corner of Summer St and Cutter Ave).

The will be 3 awesome bands, a raffle, plus a full bar. This is an all ages show, but please bring ID if you are going to be drinking.

-7pm to 8pm will be raffle and socializing (there is a full bar!)

-8pm to 8:45pm: Sway with special guest Carolyn Conspiracy (http://www.myspace.com/swaymusicforever and http://www.myspace.com/carolynconspiracy).

- 9pm to 9:45pm: McAlister Drive (http://www.myspace.com/mcalisterdrive).

- 10pm to 10:45pm: Provocateur (http://www.myspace.com/provocateur).

Tickets are $10 a person and can be purchased via paypal or at the show. Because of limited capacity we advise people to pre-pay tickets via paypal. Money can be sent via paypal to anomie666@excite.com or by just clicking this link:

https://www.paypal.com/cgi-bin/webscr?cmd=_s-xclick&hosted_button_id=2290811

Please make donations in $10 increments to correspond with the number of tickets you are requesting ($10 for 1 ticket, $20 for 2 tickets, etc.). Your name and number of tickets will be saved and your ticket(s) will be reserved for the show!

If you are unable to attend the benefit concert, but would like to donate to our cause, please see our individual webpages to make a donation.

I really don't think lj is going to be shut down.

Neither do I, but I won't be shocked if it becomes a substantially suckier place. I enjoyed not having ads on my journal, but that's definitely going to be the first thing to go.

Some time in the last few hours, the Gawker/ValleyWag article was silently changed to say "12 of 28 employees" were fired, when it had formerly said "20 of 28".

speaking of which, we should all revolt, and counter the oh LJ-has-freaks prejudice & idiocy with, hey, guess what, there are also tons and tons of people who use it to do good for the community, i.e. when your yard sale for the Homeless Coalition was in the news, and for this, and so forth.

I'm excited for this benefit. Much love.

True! Before I read the article/looked at these comments I was actually wondering where the hell I could find as much useful information about Davis, Somerville, and living in Mass in general* as I have here.

*i.e. "What the hell are these white flakes falling from the sky...??"
