Car accident on Dover Street

Was awakened very early this morning to a grinding, glass shattering, tire squealing crash on Dover Street. Someone took out some parking meters and slammed into the Mormon church. I imagine black ice played a factor.

Anyone have any details?

How much damage was there to the Dover Plaza building? (the one with the Mormon church in it)

It has got a banged up corner (I work in the non-church section of it) and it broke one of the two panes in the window there. Looks like there's some structural damage to the wall it hit, as the plaster's cracked at the top of the "pillar" as well.

The vehicle was the red dodge van that was parked there earlier, not sure if it's still parked there or not. It was as of noonish.

You may not have recognized it because the small sign says "Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints" instead of "Mormon". It occupies the part of the Dover Plaza building furthest away from Davis Square, on Dover Street.

But there is a JW Church 'Kingdom Hall' on Beech St. in Cambridge, next to St. James Episcopal.

Their dress isn't exactly a 'uniform' but it's still pretty obvious, especially since all of them have badges saying that their first name is 'Elder'.

Nope; gentlemen wear them too. I learned about it when I was in the Army. Had to deal with what was allowed to be worn under the uniform.

I'm sure one could create a list (no undergarments of the opposite sex, nothing crotchless, nothing that signals your location to the enemy, no live animals...), but the main thing we had to deal with was what was allowed. Religious garments were allowed as long as they were not visible when wearing the uniform as a general rule. I had several drill sergeants working for me and it was a chore to explain to them that the world didn't always work the way they expected it to (oh, and that soldiers did have rights...limited rights, but rights).

was walking home the other night around 1:30 a.m. when I came across the accident. Two parkeing meters were on the sidewalk, and it looked like the car that crashed had left the scene as there were tire tracks leading from the building back out to the street. I didn't think the police had come cause I couldn't imagine they would have left the meters on the sidewalk for anyone to take. One thing I did notice, which i found amusing, was that the license plate had come off the car and was in one of the planters in front of the building.
