My apologies if you're the one whose lawn chair I ran over (and over) and then parked on, but you shouldn't leave garbage in a public parking spot.

i agree with you. i don't want to assume. i don't need to assume. i shovel my own spot if i don't have one. everyone gets what they want and nobody gets upset.

and to be clear, because arguments can become conflated: i'm not speaking of, and have not spoken of, people who put out chairs before a storm. or people who put chairs in spots cleared by others. i'm discussing the spot i cleared for me.

How would anyone else know, when looking at a chair in the street, how much work the owner did?

And you still haven't explained why having been parked on the street during a storm entitles you to the spot going forward.

(Oh, and can I park on the street instead of my driveway, and thus clear that spot and reserve it for the week so that when friends come over, they have a place to park, too?)

Dunno... Perhaps you can mark the chair with the smell of your own sweat from shoveling...

clearly there is no way to determine how much effort the owner of a chair did to clear said spot. of course, that is the wrong question to be asking. the right question is: how much effort did you make to clear that spot?

i did not explain that because that is a moot point. it is the effort of clearing that has earned me the spot. mind you, i have always said "temporarily". "going forward" suggests a time frame i've made no claim to: i.e. in perpetuity.

parking on the street when you don't need to is a judgment for you to make. me? i would not.
