Does anybody out there know of a place that will hem your pants for you at a reasonable price? I have a few pairs of nice trousers for work that I can't wear out in this weather because they are too long and they will get destroyed walking in the snow. They are too long in general and just need to be taken up an inch or two, but I have no idea where to take them to get a nice job done.

Who do you trust in this area to do simple clothing alterations?

Thanks!

Janette in Arlington, right on Mass Ave a little bit past Arlington Center.

Lots of recommendations in the tailor tag, as well.

We use Jack's in Porter Sq., and we've been nothing but happy with him.

That said, a simple hem job should be fine at any competent place, most dry cleaners do hemming fairly cheaply. I know Jack tells people to go to the Porter Sq. Dry Cleaners with simple stuff when he's got a lot of work lined up.

I second Jack. I use him for everything, though it is true that most dry cleaners can hem pants more cheaply.

But otherwise, Jack is the best.

Hemming you can get just about anywhere, but you can't go wrong with Jack's in Porter Square. Jack is a great guy, charges reasonable prices, and does excellent work.

Twice in one week! Elegant Tailor between Harvard and Porter. I trusted my wedding dress to them. They're awesome.

I know of a place that specializes...

Chris Fine Tailoring in Teele Square - they're really a drycleaning shop,
mostly, but I've had them hem pants, skirts, replace linings of coats. (I also had them take in a dress that was cut weird in the back for me, which
did not go as well - it got better, but not perfect.)

They have a changing room and actually pin up the hem on the pants on you, and I've been bringing my dry cleaning there since 1996. Run by a really sweet older immigrant couple who recognize me, and nowadays ask how my daughter and husband are doing anytime I go in, too.

I've no idea if I'm particularly memorable because we save up our dry cleaning and bring them a giant pile of stuff 3x a year or if they are just that kind of people who remember everyone. They .

Sorry to bring up an old thread. I have a pair of jeans that I really like, but it is too long. Are the recommendations here still good? What is a reasonable price for shortening a pair of jeans for an inch or two?

Thanks.
