Anyone want a free piano, delivered to you?

At the end of the month I am moving from a first-floor apartment to a third-floor apartment that, even if I were able to get the piano TO the third floor, would not fit the piano. (Attic apartment. Slanted ceilings. No dice.) So I'm looking for a new home for it. It's a full-sized upright, rather old, not in the best condition, and badly needs tuning (though tuning it might even be a lost cause, depending on how messed up it is inside, but I don't know that for a fact), but heck it's a free piano and I've enjoyed tickling its ivories.

Here's the kicker: I will pay for professional piano movers to move it to your (first floor) space. The process of getting this piano into my apartment, just up the four porch steps, was so painful and involved (there was logistics of getting a dolly and a truck and enough people together on the same day, a friend threw out his back, and the whole process took hours) that I vowed that I'd always use professional movers to move it after this, even if it's an old crappy piano and even if it's not going with me. So you benefit from this deal, unlike most Craigslist ads which offer free pianos if YOU deal with the delivery.

Also, suggestions of churches/schools/other places that might like a free and freely-delivered piano are welcome. If LJ doesn't pan out, I'm going to have to resort to Craigslist and cold-calling non-profits.

I don't know if you've contacted any piano movers for quotes, but in my experience, professional piano movers can cost over $200 to move a piano from a first floor apartment to another first floor apartment. I understand the pain of moving without them (I just did that last may and it took 6 of us to get it up the porch stairs), and it's really great of you to offer to pay for the moving, I just wanted to make sure you know what you'll be spending.

I do know the number of a good piano tuner if whoever ends up taking the piano is interested. I've used them for 3 years.

Yep, I am perfectly aware this is a multi-hundred-dollar job. I priced the movers when putting the piano into my current apartment (at least $300, but it was coming from central Mass), and decided to go the cheap route with friends - and as seen above, way too much hassle and work. It is worth it to me to pay for the moving.

Personally, I would be more inclined to go half's on the price. But it's your decision, and your money. I hope you can find someone on LJ to take it off your hands. If I didn't have one already, I would.

If the previous poster turns out not to work out, I am open to negotiating something wherein we get the movers to "split the bill" between the cost of moving it there if it were a first floor (which I'd pay) and the cost to move it up the stairs (which you'd pay).

Looks like solarpanda gets first dibs though. :)
