How are we supposed to get rid of old tvs?

there's about three on my street that the trash guys don't take.

(this is in Medford)
the medford city page doesn't seem to say..

In Somerville you get a sticker from the DPW and put it out the day after trash day with the sticker on it.
You might try calling your DPW to see what they have to say about it.

Actually, no sticker is required in Somerville, but you do have to call 311 to arrange pickup.

From the DPW website:

How can I dispose of a TV and Computer Monitor?
TV and Computer Monitor may be placed curbside on your regular trash day. Constituents must notify the city by calling 3-1-1 or (617) 666-3311 the day before to schedule pick up.

So the answer to the OP is, "they get left on the other side of the Somerville line".

Well, they have to call 311 to get a pickup. Most people just put out with the trash and they sit...until someone else calls 311.

With the digital conversion, I hate that now there will be even more TV's ending up in some landfill somewhere...

Which is just stupid because there's no reason people can't keep using the old TVs with a $50 converter box. But God forbid most people pay attention to what's really happening when the guy at Best Buy is busily trying to up-sell them on a 60" flat screen TV. (not that I'm cynical at all about this)

You could also try making a post on Craigslist or Freecycle to tell people about them...I once posted to give away a ~15-year-old, 17" TV on Craigslist and got an overwhelming number of responses.
