Hello!
Looking for an Asian market in the area that has a good selection. The only two that I'm familiar with are: Super 88 in Brighton and Ken Man (spelling?) in Quincy. It be great if there are others closer to Somerville.
Thanks everyone!

Define "good selection". Do you already know about Kotobukiya at Porter Exchange?

There's Reliable Market in Union Square, too. Much cheaper. There's another one in Central Square as well, but I don't remember the name. It's on Prospect right next to the pub.

Thanks

I don't know names of markets there, but have you checked Chinatown to see if there isn't something there that would meet your needs? In case you aren't at all familiar with it: Boston's Chinatown is located on the Orange line (although you can easily walk to it from the redline Downtown Crossing or Park Street stops). It has tons of little shops and at least one supermarket. Since it's redline accessible, it's a lot easier to get to than Brighton from Davis Square. "Chinatown" is also something of a misnomer at this point, as there are also Vietnamese, Korean, and Japanese establishments in the area.

Reliable Market in Union Square is a Korean market. They also have Japanese items, but not a lot of Chinese etc.
There's Shalimar, an Indian Market, in Central Square near Blockbuster.
Chinatown has a Super88 (http://www.super88market.com/) at Herald and Washington; apparently there's one on Essex too, but I've not seen it (I go to Chinatown every weekend). There's a new market, C-Mart, in two places; One is where the old Mei Tung Market is, under a parking garage on either Surface or Purchase, between South Station and the Chinatown Gate (the rear of the building is 88 Beach). I haven't been there since it was the Mei Tung, but I loved the Mei Tung, and I've heard excellent things about it. The other is in an alley off of (I think) Essex...it used to be the Thai Bihn Market and it's next to a Vietnamese Sandwich (Bahn Mi) shop. I don't think it's open yet...
There are also smaller markets scattered about Chinatown; just about everything in Chinatown is good but way cheaper than the Horrible Star Market.

Also, the Market Basket just outside Union on Somerville Ave. has a great selection of Hispanic ingredients.

Korean market on Mass. Ave.

There's a small korean market on Mass. Ave, close to Davis (just up the street from Frank's Steakhouse, in the same block with Hana Sushi). I've not gone in there yet, but it's proximity might make up for being rather small and having limited choices.
