i've got a really big tool and my shed isn't big enough for it.  no, seriously.

i've got this enormous metal lathe, a monarch 12CK.  i've got an even bigger one, too, and the garage is pretty darn full with both of them in there so i'd like to find the monarch a new home.  it may not weigh exactly a ton, but it's a lot more than our car and will require a flatbed truck with a winch to move, so don't jump the gun and call your friend with a truck, unless your friend works at someplace likes pat's tow.  it takes 3-phase power, but i've been running it off a phase-matic converter for the last few years and i'm told that replacing the 3-phase motor with a single-phase would be easy enough.  ideally i'd like to find a trade school or similar to donate it to, but i'm not too picky, as long as it doesn't go for scrap metal.  help ?  anyone ?  bueller ?

the vocational/trade school might be able to use it...if you like, i could reach out to someone at the high school and see if they can 1. use it and 2. be able to retrieve it
yes? no?

And if Somerville High doesn't want it, the next place to check might be Minuteman Tech out in Lexington. (But I have no connections there)

You may have better luck with Medford: we had friends who moved to DC and Dave had to give up a full workshop (tablesaw, planer, drill press etc.) and he offered the entire lot to Somerville High for nothing if they'd move it out. Whoever is was (I can get you particulars) hemmed and hawwed for so long, Dave wound up calling Medford High and they took it off his hands pronto.

I'm assuming this isn't something Phil might be interested in? Because of course he needs *even more* heavy metal working tools... :-)

Hi. I'm affiliated with the metal shop at Mass Art (state art school). It might be something they would be interested in. Drop me a line with specs and I can check it out with the shop manager.

I've got nothing useful to add, except to say that I learned to machine on a Monarch, and will always have a sweet spot for Monarchs and Bridgeports, even though the little machining I do these days is on Tsugamis and Fadals.

I hope this Monarch finds a good home.
