For those that didn't catch what [livejournal.com profile] ron_newman said in the last post, Soleil Café has in fact closed, and according to a note left on their door it has also been sold.

I'm not really surprised; they have amazing food, but nobody was ever there. More than once it took them 10 minutes to make a bagel with cream cheese.

EDIT: Deleted the first post due to html problems. Sorry about that, Ron.

Thanks for posting this. The good news in that note is:

"We hope you will continue to savor our Italian pastries and desserts at Lyndell's Bakery (720 Broadway) starting April 9, 2009."

Yeah. On the one hand, sad that I never got around to tasting their apparently fabulous pastries. On the other hand, Lyndell's is right around the corner from me. Now I will actually get around to it.

They had staffing problems, as in, one of the founding brothers up and went home to Italy. That's when they stopped doing dinner and started doing really erratic hours...

If dinner was your main purpose for being there, you were missing out on Fortunato's incredible Sicilian Cassata.

There was one dessert called "chocolate delicious" and it really was!!!!
And they just started selling some delicious sandwich cookies dipped in chocolate, they were so amazing! Sigh. Well at least there's Lyndell's.

Well, at least the baked goods, which really were the best thing they had, will continue to be available and will complement Lyndell's already pretty tasty baked goods. I hope and think that will be a success.

It seems like such an obvious place for a coffee shop but I don't know what the rent is, etc. Teele Square seems to be a tough spot for coffee places - the Mag Muffin does a good business but is as much a takeout place as anything.

I went to Soleil occasionally and liked the coffee, treats, etc. Never had meals there. Since the place across the street is empty I suspect Soleil may sit empty for a while. Then maybe a Dunkies...
