Dear Friends,

These are difficult times to be homeless. But your support has allowed the Somerville Homeless Coalition to keep our doors open to the men, women, and children in need in our community and to provide them with shelter, food, and supportive services. We are grateful for your generosity and could not do our work without your help.

As our way of saying 'thank you', we invite you to join us at our Open House on Friday, February 27th at 3:00 PM. Our goal is to give you a better understanding of our work. We will meet at our emergency adult shelter, located on the corner of College Avenue and Chapel Street in the College Avenue United Methodist Church. The entrance is through the side door on Chapel Street.

The afternoon will include a shelter tour and the opportunity to meet current and former clients. One of them has made a video of her permanent housing program that she is excited to share with you. We will also have a round table discussion on how we can survive and serve others during these trying economic times. We look forward to tapping into your expertise and want to hear from you how we can better communicate our mission, vision, and goals.

I hope you'll join us for this productive and informative afternoon. A response is not necessary, but please do not hesitate to be in touch if you have any questions (I can be reached at 617.623.6111 or maf@shcinc.org). I encourage you to bring a friend, coworker, or family member so that they may become more familiar with our work and join the conversation.

I look forward to seeing you this Friday!

Warm regards,

Mark Alston-Follansbee
SHC Executive Director

Thanks for posting, but please add one or more <lj-cut> tags since it is quite long.

Click on the <lj-cut> link in my comment above, and that will explain how to do this.

The post itself is welcome, it just needs a bit of editing.

I wish I could, but 3 pm Friday is not good for working people.

i second ron's lament about not being good for working people.
i would very much like to go to this and become more involved in the SHC in my neighborhood, but during the day on a friday is no good.

Same here.

Sorry, why 3PM on a Friday? It seems that only, or mostly, unemployed people would be able to make it. But perhaps that's the plan, since unemployed folks may have more time.

Were there staff cuts? I've haven't heard back from my caseworker in a couple of months. I figured that something happened, and sort of gave up on SHC...
