Diesel in Davis Square and True Grounds in Ball Square often have slices of cheese cake and carrot cake and other nice pastries (from other bakeries--you might ask them where they recommend for future reference).

I would not recommend the cakes at Johnnies Foodmaster unless you have serious munchies, since those are usually horrid.
