I work for one of those dog walking companies, and get to take the van home at night. Sadly, the van has commercial plates, so I can't park it on the mean streets of Somerville.

I can't afford to pay much, but I'm hoping that somebody has a neglected spot next to their apartment that they could rent out to me. I don't have a lot of cash, but I'm willing to pay some. Perhaps somebody would consider an exchange of cleaning or cooking for the spot?

Thanks in advance.

You might want to edit your headline there. It looks like you are offering the parking spot. Maybe say "Want to rent a parking space to me...?

It's not clear until the second paragraph what you really want, and you might lose an interested party because they didn't get the message. :-)

Oh, also you might want to look into the Cambridge (area) "Time Trade Circle", the local time bank (http://community.timebanks.org/index.php) if you've got more time/skills than money.

Just what I thought. Add "I" to the start of the headline...

It's the sort of ambiguity that some people will jump to one meaning on, and some people will jump to the other. I definitely jumped to the conclusion of "this is a parking space available for you to rent". But then I read the post because I was curious what people are charging for parking spaces near Davis these days.

There are specific circumstances that allow for commercial plated vehicles to get a parking permit. I don't know what they are or if you qualify, but friends who have experience with this have found the Somerville city government completely unhelpful in the process (as in saying it's impossible and not allowed until you hand them the form saying otherwise).

Winter St.

There is an Orthodontist parking lot on Winter St. in Somerville, right in Davis. I see a van that does not appear to be affiliated with the office parked there every night, you may want to contact them. So long as the van is gone during their normal business hours I think they may let you rent a spot. I'm assuming thats what the other van owner does.

there are a number of non-permit parking streets in somerville, or ones that permit overnight parking regardless of permit status like beacon st.

You can't park a commercial vehicle overnight in Somerville, even on a no-permit street.

allowed or not, you can park if the somerville traffic & parking people do not patrol the street.
