Phony vendor pulls fast one on homeless, by Ric Kahn, on the front page of today's City Weekly.

The article refers to our recent DSLJ discussions, and quotes from Homeless Empowerment Project director James Shearer, who says, "It's low. You're robbing the poor."

I just was flipping through our paper (our real paper, made of paper) and was going to post about it here, but you got to it first.

Once again, DSLJ leads the media. What's next- a story on airport noise that quotes our humble little community? Should we all be looking into press agents? Or should we establish DSLJ as a news wire (with the snark comm as a sort of "Onion")?

Great. I just hope the article did enough telling people that real spare change news sellers have badges and to keep buying from them because it's a good cause.

I dislike a lot of the commenters on the Globe's website. Someone has already posted telling people to quit giving money to homeless and that it is your fault if you get scammed.

Don't read too many of the Globe article comments. They're often so negative, so cruel, or so heartless that you start thinking that everyone in the world is like that. Very bad for my mental health, anyway.

True, the Boston Globe comments

tend to be very stupid and mean. I'm surprised they even bother with comments.

He tried to get me in Park Street station last week, and I said loudly "NO. I ONLY BUY FROM AUTHORIZED VENDORS" and instead of giving me crap (as he had in the past) he said, "Okay, okay, have a nice day."
