This is a bit out of Davis Square, but I thought someone might be able to provide insight. Has anyone heard any recent news regarding the Maxpac site? The last I heard the developer pulled out because the economy went south, but that was not definite. Is there any recent news?

It's not true that the developer pulled out.

Joe Lynch interviewed Steven Kennedy Smith of KSS Realty (the developer of the MaxPac site) on his show "Greater Somerville with Joe Lynch" a few weeks ago. I think the link to the video of that interview was posted here shortly after the show aired.
