For a while there was a box in the West Branch library to collect Shaw's receipts. Just when I'd gotten around to doing that and was about to drop them off, they've changed the system.

You now sign up your Shaw's reward card with a special website, and all your purchases on Tuesdays, Wednesday, and Thursdays at Massachusetts Shaw's or Star Markets give a kickback to the Friends of the Library.

Enter your Shaw's reward number
Enter the phone number you gave when you signed up for the Shaw's reward card

After you've logged in you're asked what program to sign up for -- Friends of the Library ID #49001019921

(Or so the instructions tell me, I have no idea if I even gave a phone number when I signed up for my Shaw's card.)

that's pretty funny, as I can't remember the last time I went to a grocery store on a day other than Saturday or Sunday. Whoops.

Yeah, I find "give us your receipts" a lot easier than "jump through these hoops and then shop on certain days" but oh well.

(I tend to only shop at Shaw's for serious loss leaders, and those are often sales limited to Friday-Sunday or Saturday-Monday.)

personally, I prefer this as I like to keep my receipts, but it would be much nicer if it weren't limited to certain days.

I don't know if it's a firefox thing, but when I enter my rewards card # and phone # and click submit it takes off the last digit of my card number (which I'm assuming is why it's saying they don't match, since I *just* got a new card, and this has been my phone # for almost 10 years)

Maybe you have to leave out the spaces when entering the Shaw's number? That's not a smart user interface at all, but it could be the problem.

I did leave out the spaces, and I tried entering it with the spaces. I also tried several formats for my phone number.

Yep, and now I tried it too, with the same result. I wonder if I didn't give them my phone number, or gave them a bogus one, when I first got the Shaw's card.

My suggestion: shop at Market Basket and donate half the 30%+ you save by not going to Shaws.

Of course, you have to deal with more other customers (and on the plus side, friendly, helpful staff). Funny how MB is mobbed when there isn't a soul in Shaws. Not so funny when you look at the prices.

eh, i'm either in brighton or cambridge, depending on the day, so market basket is not as convenient. the other night i saved nearly $15 and spent $30 with my card at star. that's good enough for me. point of mentioning this was i wondered if with this rewards program thing, if it mattered which shaws/star you shopped at.

I've never seen Shaw's empty unless I'm there after midnight. I go there because I can walk to it. Schlepping groceries on the bus is a pain.
