Didn't see this as something that was tagged, but can someone recommend a good place to get some heating oil ordered from? (Local to Davis is great, if possible.)

I'm still kind of New to New England, and this whole order Heating Oil thing is so different from the Midwest.

I've been tagging that topic as 'utilities', although that's less than ideal since the tag also covers gas, electric, telephone, and cable TV. In any event, if you click on the tag and keep paging back in time, you'll find a few posts about oil.

i recommend joining MassEnergy (I think formerly Mass Oil Consumer Alliance), they get a group/discount rate on oil.... We signed up through them, and then were assigned to Faulkner Bros.

check out http://www.newenglandoil.com/mass.htm (http://www.newenglandoil.com/mass.htm) for a look at oil prices.

One thing many folks do is set up a contract with a company. Sometimes they'll lock in a price cap on oil. Also, if you've got a contract for oil delivery, you can often get a maintenance contract. If you're renting, you might want to talk to your landlord about who they have a contract with to see if there's a price break to be gotten there.

When negotiating a price with an oil company, watch out for fixed price (rather than price cap) plans. My neighbor got screwed when he locked in a price last August and then oil prices dropped a lot.
