Lost Cat -- FOUND
Apr. 15th, 2009 10:16 pmUPDATE: I found my cat in my garage this morning. I had the door cracked open the past few days and she was there this morning. She hadn't been there before, so she must have come in the middle of the night. I stuck my head in and called her name a few times then heard her meowing, in a sort of angry/scared/loud/howly way. She wouldn't come to me at first, but after about 5 or 10 minutes she came closer and let me pick her up. She seems fine. She was a little dusty and she was hungry, but is otherwise ok. Thanks for all the advice and the watchful eyes.

I lost my cat. :(
Black cat with white on her chest and her belly. Named Penny, she sometimes answers to her name. Has a collar and microchip. She is probably scared, as she is an indoor only cat and is fairly shy around people she doesn't know.
Please call Grace at (617) 970-8919 if you find her or have any information.

When we lost Phantom long ago, we were unfortuante in that I had just cleaned the litter box. But we left the window open and the dry food out. We got all excited when the food started going away... until we found one of the neighborhood cats chowing down during the night.

Date: 2009-04-16 03:22 pm (UTC)For example, we have a plastic box of cat treats. The sound of shaking it gets our cats running every time.
In the long run: you can train your cats to come when you whistle. All you need to do is whistle every time you put the food down. It's very effective for getting them to come back inside.

Date: 2009-04-16 02:21 pm (UTC)It sounds like you're trying alot of really good options, but i did want to throw in one more that may seem really obvious. When my indoor only cat got out a few years back, i was trying EVERYTHING, and nothing seemed to be working. BUT: i ended up going outside on the fourth day and literally YELLING his name as LOUDLY as i possibly could while shaking his food container vigorously. Lo and behold, he came trotting out of the woods (this was not in Boston).
Cats tend to not venture very far AT ALL from home, so they can hear you. That said, my cat is very gregarious, and it sounds like yours is a bit skittish. She's probably VERY close to your house, so look in the really obvious small spaces around your house.
Good luck and don't be afraid to make a fool out of yourself calling her name and whatnot :)

Date: 2009-04-16 04:59 pm (UTC)She doesn't have a very strong kink in her tail. If you touch it, you can feel it, but you usually can't tell because of her fur. I think her tail may have just been laying funny in the picture.
Other identifying features: She's not that big of a cat. She's 9 lbs. She's somewhere between a short hair and a medium hair in terms of fur length.
We have some indoor/outdoor cats on our street, one of which is black and only a little bigger than she is. So, I hope people don't ignore her thinking she's the normal cat that runs about.
So far, we've just been looking on our street and the one behind us. We'll expand the search tonight. Hopefully she didn't venture as far as Conwell. Broadway's pretty busy for a little cat.
