I know this is a bad time to try to get any kind of funding or grant for arts/literary endeavors, but I'm still hoping to find out some more information about local resources that offer any kind of financial support to artists, especially for writers. I browsed the SAC website and will write to them for pointers, but I was wondering in the meantime if anyone knows of other local funding sources to which I could apply for financial assistance so I can work less and write more, if only for a little while. I'm open to all sorts of suggestions (though I would prefer to stay here in Somerville rather than go to an off-site fellowship). I have excellent credentials and could quickly put together a good application.

Alternately, if you have pointers on any kind of arts-related resources (grants, microloans, donors, whatever) and would be willing to let me pick your brain over email or coffee, that would be fantastic, and you should please message me or comment if you'd like me to message you.

Thanks!

Try the Mass Cultural Council (http://www.massculturalcouncil.org/). I think their applications are due in October for the next year's grants, though.

MCC grant applications are typically due in December, but I think the next writing grant cycle won't be due until December 2010.

The folks at SAC are helpful and approachable. Call and set up an appointment with them. They will point you in good directions.

They are short-handed, however, as Lauren Leeman just left to move to Scotland. I don't know if there is money in the city budget to replace her.

The Artists Foundation (http://www.artistsfoundation.org/) email list, while somewhat annoyingly high-traffic, does send out notifications of available arts grants (as well as opportunities for public arts display) in the Massachusetts area on a fairly regular basis.

If you can get time away from the day job, the Resource Center (http://agmconnect.org/RCP/overview.aspx) at Associated Grantmakers might be helpful.
