I see Museum of Modern Renaissance (the Russian painters in the former Masonic temple on College Ave) isn't on this year's Somerville Open Studios map, alas. Artists that are definitely on my list:

#104: Behind The Mask, 6 Campbell Park Place - masks and puppets of many sizes

#7: Bonnie Denis, Brickbottom C506 - sock creatures

#73: Molly Tomlinson, 110 Boston Ave - urban/natural photos

What else do you recommend, and why?

If you went on Saturday, what new ones did you see that really got you?

HILARY SCOTT! He's preparing for a big installation at Higgins, and has a lot of awesome works in progress beyond his usual cool stuff.

M.L. Van Ries. Paper arts, in Mad Oyster. Always very clever.

Thank you for this recommendation! I got there just before 6 pm but he was happy for me to linger and look around.

I went to the Armory, the art there was pretty good and had good variety of different artists, however for me the big draw was finally having a reason to be in that building. It's pretty cool.

If you like sock creatures and masks and puppets, you may like the flower fairies at #61, Goblin Fruit Studios. Tiny & sweet.

#39 Skunk at his new location. Robots, and mechanical playthings made from recycled metal parts.

*I* recommend Mad Oyster Studios (http://www.madoyster.org), number 18 on the SOO map. ;)
