in half of the former Pemberton Market space at Mass. Ave. and Rindge Ave. (The other half is still vacant and for lease.) Hours are 7 am to 9 pm daily. Today was the store's first day of business.
I went in to buy some tomatoes. The owner shook my hand and said, "My friend, welcome. This is my store. As you can see, it is not Macy's, it is not Neiman-Marcus. It is a convenience store, so lower your expectations." :)
About half the store is standard quickie-mart fare of snacks, condiments, and canned foods. The other half is Indian/Bengali fare (bags of lentils, large bags of jasmine rice, ghee, etc). Bollywood DVDs and phone cards behind the counter. Tasty homemade cookies at the register, which I hope they'll have more of; I'd love a local place I can pick up a samosa to munch on.
Just FYI, Farmer's Bounty right in Davis almost always has a tray of samosas for sale at the counter. I've never tried one, so I can't vouch for the yumminess factor, but they are there.
