I used the google tool before I posted and didn't find any other relevant entries. I'm looking for recomendations on a good place to get a CSA for the summer. There don't appear to be too many options and Red Fire Farm seems like a pretty viable choice, but I didn't know if anyone had any anecdotal reviews. Any advice would be great.

There was a discussion about local CSAs last December. I think most of the ones in the area are mentioned. However, I would guess that many (most?) are full for the year. It never hurts to contact them, however. (And there is some info about Red Fire Farm here, too.

There are likely to be many people with a full share looking for someone to split it with, at this point, so if you're looking for a half share you could work that angle.

what [livejournal.com profile] alphacygni said, i'd be surprised if any of those organizations have shares left at this point. FYI, most such entities start asking for signups sometime in late december/early january...

I used Red Fire Farm last year. Shared with two other people.

You will get best value for your money if you can drive out and do the pick-your-own parts of the harvest. None of us did, and that meant it was more expensive than supermarket produce. It was a lot fresher and tastier than supermarket, and included some things like garlic scapes, chive flowers, hakurai turnips, that you can't get in my local supermarket. The compelling factor in my not doing it this year is that I wasn't keeping up with the cooking: lettuce and tomatoes were easily converted into salads, but things like potatoes and squash wound up sitting in my fridge until they went bad.

I'm signed up for Red Fire Farm right now, and I'm pretty sure they're full for the season, although you might want to check that.

We use Parker Farm. Our second year is about to start, and we were happy with the first.
