Looking for CSA/Farmshare Recomendations.
May. 17th, 2009 02:10 pmI used the google tool before I posted and didn't find any other relevant entries. I'm looking for recomendations on a good place to get a CSA for the summer. There don't appear to be too many options and Red Fire Farm seems like a pretty viable choice, but I didn't know if anyone had any anecdotal reviews. Any advice would be great.

Date: 2009-05-18 12:33 am (UTC)You will get best value for your money if you can drive out and do the pick-your-own parts of the harvest. None of us did, and that meant it was more expensive than supermarket produce. It was a lot fresher and tastier than supermarket, and included some things like garlic scapes, chive flowers, hakurai turnips, that you can't get in my local supermarket. The compelling factor in my not doing it this year is that I wasn't keeping up with the cooking: lettuce and tomatoes were easily converted into salads, but things like potatoes and squash wound up sitting in my fridge until they went bad.
