Hello!

I'm new to the area, and was wondering if anyone knows of any board game nights/groups in Davis Square.

I checked on Meetup and Facebook and couldn't find anything.

Thanks!

jodi used to run one, and I believe she should again!

Unfortunately it ended when Boloco closed. [livejournal.com profile] jodi tried to start it again at Green Tomato II, but found they were closed on Sundays at that time (are they still?)

i miss the board game nights, too, but without a public and freely accessible place to play i will go on missing them. davis square is a challenging place to organize such things when it comes to both the neighborhoods' locations and its people but if a good place were to materialize, i'd bring some games.

i also remember hearing something about scrabble or board games at johnny d's on mondays or whatever day that the restaurant's kitchen is closed. does this still happen?

there is also a fairly local meetup.org group that used to also play games at boloco but meets somewhere else now, possibly someplace on the MIT campus?

I don't think so - Monday is trivia night at Johnny D's.

Johnny D's next Sunday!

Good news for gamers!

A sign outside Johnny D's advertises their next Board Games Night for Sunday, June 7 starting at 9 pm. The event is not on Johnny D's website, nor on that of Games People Play.

i have seen people playing Bohnanza at Spike's, which never really has a full enough house to not allow for a table or two of gaming...

Central Square, Pandemonium Books and Games...

There's games there constantly.

there are, but there's no real board game night; monday and friday are Magic, Thursday is Warhammer, and the last time i was there to play a board game (Dominion), with friends, was a Wednesday, and it was full of M:tG and miniatures roleplaying. While a board game night would rock there, they do board game events, but no regular pick up game night.

Wednesday is a regular pick-up boardgame night, you just have to look past the MtG players to the table in the back....

Yes, Wednesday has been "board game night" at Pandemonium for many months now. See:

i've been wondering for a few months now when i missed the memo or where it seems like when people say 'board games' now, they mean like d&d and stuff.

are the nights at johnny d's or here ever inclusive of like, pardon the term but 'regular' board games? liiiiiiike...pop-o-matic trouble or monopoly or things like that?
From: [identity profile] lbmango.livejournal.com
My guess is that 1) if you bring the game, and people want to play it, then everyone's happy. Scrabble often gets played at game nights. Monopoly or trouble, maybe not so much... (monopoly is too long anyway)

Also, D&D doesn't usually get played at board game nights. It's more "Euro-games" like Settlers of Catan, and Carcasonne, and games like that, if that means anything to you...

i realized monopoly was a poor example (cuz it does take FOREVER) but i couldn't think of anything else.

it's just that those other games, if you're not used to playing that type of game are really overwhelming and hard to get the hang of at first without someone narrating and holding your hand through every step, which for me takes some of the fun out of a game night. i mean, recently i played one of those lovecraft board game things, and it was pretty fun, but i couldn't have just sat down and played it as a n00b.

I saw something at Johnny D's the other day about a board game night, perhaps it was Sundays?

Their online schedule shows that Games People Play had one there on May 3 but doesn't show any more coming up.

I'm reasonably sure that I remember seeing a flyer outside of Johnny D's for another games night on 6/7, but I could be wrong.

I'm pretty sure it was a date in June though.

Yep, June 7 at 9 pm. Unfortunately not on the web site of either JD's or GPP.

I attended the Johnny D's Game Night last Sunday but the place was empty around 9:15pm. The nice guy who was organizing it expressed hope that people would arrive later but I didn't wait to find out.

I'll give it a shot some other time. Has anyone else been to one of those game nights?

There is boardgaming in Davis. The thing you want is this yahoo group, which covers all of eastern Massachusetts and a bit of RI and NH.

Seconding on the unity games list. I've been a lurker on there for a while, and it seems there are some decent gaming opportunities to be had. They also have a group on board game geek. (http://www.boardgamegeek.com/guild/139)

There is usually a weekly post about a Porter/Davis meetup. I think it happens on Wednesday, but I haven't been able to make it yet.

There is a board gaming group that usually meets at Your Move Games of Davis Square on the third Sunday of every month around 7:30 PM. It's a small group of regulars, for the most part, but we welcome you coming and saying hi.
