Does anyone know of any good, local writer's groups or workshops (preferrably free or low-cost) for all levels of writing?

Thanks.

Write Here Write Now (http://www.writeherewritenow.org/) offers excellent writing workshops and coaching targeted at queer writers. Might or might not be relevant for you, but the people who run it are great.

Also, they're sliding-scale, no one turned away for lack of funds.

If you look on CraigsList in "Activity Partners," there are often writers organizing writer's groups, and I've never seen one that wasn't free.

Oh, CraigsList isn't membership-based or anything. You can just click and use it:

www.boston.craigslist.org (http://boston.craigslist.org/)

I've seen quite a few newly forming writers groups there, or its a good place (as is LJ) to start one of your own. :-)

That's the whole point of CL's "Activity Partner" section -- to organize face to face things. Much like an LJ meetup group. :-)

the boston public library has a writers group that meets weekly, and the central square branch of the cambridge public library does as well. i don't know about somerville but i'm sure you could call or check their website to see if they have anything.

The last writers' group I was in was organized by a friend and met in her living room. That's pretty darn free :). You have any friends who like to write? and need an excuse to?

I'm planning on starting a group soon, so that'll be free.

Hi. Who're you?

I don't like to bandy my name about here, but I'm an MFA graduate from Emerson. I'm going to get together a number of friends who have some training or background, and some folks I've only met recently as well. What's your background and what do you write?

Send me email at dietrich@livejournal.com and we'll chat!

I don't mean to butt in on your conversation...I'm interested in getting involved in a writing group. I am actually considering Emerson's MFA program (so you would be a good person to talk to!!). I'm hoping to apply to programs this year.

I write poetry and fiction. I tend to focus more on poetry but I'd like to get back into writing short stories.
