I found this leaflet taped to the front of Sacco's. Even though I live on Day Street, I never received my own copy of it:

Notice of Neighborhood Meeting

There will be a neighborhood meeting regarding the proposed restaurant/bowling facility at 45 Day Street, sponsored by Ward 6 Alderman Rebekah L. Gewirtz. The operator (Flatbread) shall be present to speak with neighbors and answer any questions.

When: Wednesday, June 17, 2009, 6:30 pm
Where: Sacco's Bowl Haven, 45 Day Street

For more information about the meeting, please call Ward 6 Alderman Rebekah L. Gewirtz at (617) 718-0792 or e-mail rebekah@rcn.com .

[See the February 23 Davis Square Task Force minutes for more details of this proposal]

I lament the loss of billiards but welcome the addition of beer.

The link is unfortunately to the "draft" not the "final" DSTF minutes, which deleted the reference to licensing from the American Flatbread Company after Jay Gould, the owner, noted that his product had evolved in a distinctive way that was no longer under license. There were no other changes.

'real' is the only kind of bowling The Dude can abide.

I got three or more copies of it in my mailbox and they put fliers on all the cars parked up to Orchard. Which means I then had to chase down all the fliers that people tossed into the street and then blew into my yard.

Sticking a note on Sacco's seems much more efficient.

American Flatbread Company?! That's almost too good to be true. The restaurant in Burlington, Vermont, was a fantastic experience. I can hardly think of anything that would be a better addition to the already very good Davis Square food variety.

And the pizza's way better than Bertucci's. Oh my yes.

This restaurant would be http://www.flatbreadcompany.com , not the unaffiliated http://www.americanflatbread.com which has a location in Burlington, VT. But it's still a great place.

That's odd that you didn't get a flyer. They might have figured people in Day would see the sign on the door. I would like to go to this meeting.
I know people who have gone here for years for the billiards alone. I think getting rid of that is a bad idea. I am not big on pizza but I don't have to eat. Most people like it so it would do well. I am NOT happy about the alcohol. We are lacking places where families can hang out. I enjoy going to a place where the stench of alcohol and those who have been drinking it are not around. We need more places without it. Alcohol isn't a huge deal if it is to so many that may be a glimpse into the problems of today's society. Though, I understand they're a restaurant and would like to serve wine. I don't think the idea of a restaurant/bowling combo is a good one. We have too many eateries already in the square but with few places to actually do something aside from eating and shopping. It would be a much better idea to skip the restaurant and and just fix up what is already there. The people coming out of the eateries that are already lining the square will go in to hang out bowl, play pool, etc.
