Michelle Kwan Comes to the Neighborhood

In case you spot any crazed fans hunting for a petite Asian girl, be warned that two-time Olympic medalist figure skater Michelle Kwan is headed to Tufts Fletcher School this fall.  I doubt you'll spot her hanging out at Diesel, but one never knows.  I realize this probably isn't as exciting as having two contestants from one season of "Beauty and the Geek" living in the 'hood or Jessica Biel attending Tufts, but it's interesting to note, nonetheless.

You never know......when Jessica Biel was at Tufts she was spotted around Davis Square occasionally. My daughters' friend took a picture with her when she ran into her at Rite-Aid/Brooks/Osco.

I have no idea who Jessica Biel is, nor do I watch Beauty and the Geek. However, Michelle Kwan is one of my idols, I've watched her skate for years! Consider me a crazed fan. However I likely won't hunt for her, heck, if I was standing next to her in a supermarket line I'd likely not even recognize her, unless she was carrying ice skates. Context is everything.

Tufts has several on-campus coffeehouses, though. (Although I don't know how much they're perceived as things Fletcher students might do, vs undergrads or someone. I went to one a lot when I was a Tufts grad student; the one in the library (alas!) did not exist yet.)

Okay, I had to Wikipedia the show. Funny, being a typical Davis nerd/bohemian/yup myself, I've always thought geeks are totally hot, and I can't imagine it ever being weird or unusual to date them. But then, I guess you were dealing with a different sort of girl.

It was fun. And, granted I'm biased, but my initial thought at meeting the other geeks was that they were all quite normal.

I remember seeing Jessica Biel on Boston ave comming out of Expressos. Best thing to ever come out that place. I'll keep an eye out for Kwan. Who knows she might even live on my street since I'm just down the hill from fletcher.

Beauty and the geek is ridiculous. The girls are ugly and the guys aren't always that geeky. I hope it's the geeks that live here and not one of the bimbos. That show is just sad.

I've heard a few stories about Jessica, all positive stories. I hear she is really nice. I've followed Michelle's skating career since she was 12. She seems like a bright kid. Or not so kid anymore, lol.
