Hi all. I was coming out of the Davis T stop this evening and saw a pigeon hanging out underneath the overhang on the concession stand. It looked pretty sick, all fluffed up and not moving, red spots on either side of its eyes. I called and left a voicemail for Somerville Animal Control; hopefully they will come and pick it up tomorrow.

On the voicemail they also have a number for the Animal Rescue League at 617-226-9170 but that number does not appear to be working right now.

Thanks to this community I was able to find the number from the posts about the turkey a while ago.

[I tagged this with "wildlife" since I can't find a non-pets animal tag and I thought that animal would be too general.]

FUCK FUCK FUCK.

The bird was fine. Just....FUCK.

I almost beat a child in the square at around 7pm. The little psychotic monster was chasing the bird around the Square, unsupervised. He was trying to kick it. I was looking for a parent, and didn't see one, so went over to stop the fucking brat when he finally managed to trap it when the bird tried to hide under the bench in front of JP Licks. He kicked it hard, and bounced it into the wall, and I saw feathers fly. I took my umbrella, turned it non-pointy side with, as far as I can tell from my own knowledge of myself, the intent to beat the child while asking how he liked it (I was with [livejournal.com profile] trowa_barton, who is usually pretty good about stopping me, and . So it's likely a good thing the bird flew away.

The bird was, indeed, fluffed (several feathers probably broke) but it flew off and hid by the concession stand. I could not see it, but it had flown away. though the kid took off after it he couldn't find it either, and he and his little brat friend (who had also been chasing, but wasn't harming the pigeon), took off down Elm.

I should've chased the little sociopath anyway. Little fucker.

forgive my language. i haven't been that angry/rageous in months.

Not to be an ass or anything, but I've seen literally hundreds of sick pigeons in the greater Boston area since I've lived here, so maybe it wasn't the same bird.

i know, it just seems like the timing, and the location, and the condition of the bird would be an awful lot of a coincidence. It was around 7:20 when we were watching this happen (got to Burger Company at 7:15 and they had us wait so we were out front), the bird was visibly hurt (though still able to fly), and under half an hour later (since the OP was posting to LJ, and had to get to the computer, they probably saw the bird 10-15m before posting), in the same place the beaten on bird last hid, someone else notices a bird in bad condition.

That'd be a hell of a lot of coincidence, I believe.

I would have been BS as well. I am sure that this kid will be no stranger to the criminal justice system in the future. Hopefully not for beating his SO or kids.

Well, maybe the bird will be helped by the bill that was submitted yesterday by one of our illustrious State Reps. The bill would unionize pigeons for movie work. (You can read it again if you like, but it will still say the same thing!!)
The bird will just need to file a grievance with his union (unless he's a non-union pigeon!).

Like saying "fuck, I saw a sick rat!!!". Pigeons are winged rats, more or less.

I must diasgree.

Pigeons and rats deserve care if they are sick or injured as much as any other animal.

It is not nice for a stupid kid to kick a poor bird, that I agree with. Other than that, nature is tough for all organisms and death and disease are pervasive parts of life.

Aw that makes me sad. I love birds. Rodents aren't so bad either. After nursing my roommates sick rat this winter I've come to the conclusion that I do give a rats ass.
