I'm a local art teacher, and together with my colleagues we are offering a Spanish language and arts immersion summer program for kids aged 3-6, and 6-9. We will study the visual arts, drama, music, history, customs and language of different Spanish speaking countries each day, and sample snacks from those cultures as well! This will be a fun interdisciplinary experience, taught by teachers who LOVE what they do.

As another local art teacher, I think this idea is super awesome. I'd love to do something similar with Brazilian culture.

I think this is a good idea. Especially since Spanish is such a loose term in this country as Spain Spanish is SO different from say, Cuban. I love that you're covering the Spanish of many countries and not just one. It would be great to have French, Russian, etc. An array of cultures at some point.

What would be really great is if there would be a similar program for the Hispanic, Brazilian, Haitian, etc, communities here. To teach their young ones about America. English and our foods. It's terribly needed.

I know and understand the importance of American children learning other cultures. But our foreign neighbors REALLY need to learn the language and culture of this nation which their families have chosen to bring them to.

Sure. I only post, like, once a month these days. But I'm down.

I agree. We should start some sort of local meet-up to swap lessons or something. I just finished my first year, so I'm still relying a lot on stealing/adapting lessons from other resources.

The flyer says Magazine Street - "the heart of Porter Square"?

If I were from Brazil, Mexico, El Salvador, etc. I don't know that I'd want to learn about American foods when my native ones were so much more tasty (and probably healthier)

You may want to also post this to [livejournal.com profile] cambridge_mass and [livejournal.com profile] centralsquare. Neither community is very busy, but they probably have some readers who don't visit [livejournal.com profile] davis_square.
