Hi -
I'm doing a class project (with real life implications :) that focuses on promoting local ingredients to restaurants. We're focusing on Davis Sq, but need opinions from all over.
I would be very grateful if you took 5 minutes to take our survey - comments about local food are also very welcome :)

thank you!

Your survey appears broken. The 'Done' link on the final page leads you back through it again.

I took the survey as-is, but it might not be a bad idea for you to suggest premiums that are a percentage on top of the total, rather than a dollar amount. Like, if I spend $5 on a regular burrito, I wouldn't want to spend $10 on a local one. But if I spend $30 on an entree in an upscale joint, spending $5 more on top of that wouldn't be quite as big a deal.

I think the survey didn't really cover why one is eating out - sometimes it's just a thing you do, or a social thing. I don't know - I'm a huge proponent of cooking local (for several years, about 90% of our fresh ingredients have been from MA) and growing a garden and farmers markets, but restaurant food is just....well, sometimes a restaurant is just a restaurant, you know?

I guess also, I can't afford to eat at the awesome local-sourcing places (garden at the cellar, flora, henrietta's, etc) more than for rare special occasions so I guess I currently see it as a moot point.

Funny, this, because I'll pay a high premium to buy fantastic ingredients to cook with, but less likely to spend that $ at a restaurant...

I'm not sure what % of their food is local/regional, but I know that Grendel's is certified as a Green Restaurant, which means they do have a certain (ostensibly higher than average) amount of locally sourced food.

I'm wondering what the definition of "local" is. I'm assuming it doesn't need to be grown in Somerville. Is it just proximity, or do farming methods and animal treatment factor in? (I'd rather eat a free-range chicken from 60 miles away than a factory-farm raised one from 30 miles away)
