Probably not going to hit Somerville itself, but close enough that you may want to warn friends and family if they're out beyond 128:

Statement as of 3:25 PM EDT on July 08, 2009

... A Tornado Warning remains in effect until 345 PM EDT for south
central Middlesex... west central Norfolk and extreme southeastern
Worcester counties...

At 323 PM EDT... National Weather Service Doppler radar continued to
indicate a tornado. This tornado was located near Hopkinton... or
near Milford... moving southeast at 10 mph.

Other locations in the warning include but are not limited to
Holliston.

Precautionary/preparedness actions...

When a Tornado Warning is issued based on Doppler radar... it means
that strong rotation has been detected in the storm. A tornado may
already be on the ground... or is expected to develop shortly. If you
are in the path of this dangerous storm... move indoors and to the
lowest level of the building. Stay away from windows. If driving... do
not seek shelter under a Highway overpass.

Heavy rainfall may obscure this tornado. Take cover now! If you wait
to see or hear it coming... it may be too late to get to a safe place.

Wow, nice work with un-capping the weather bulletin. Though I sometimes feel like the shouting is half the fun ;-)

I feel like a tornado is one thing that the weather people are justified in shouting about, but this is certainly easier to read :)

There's a way to do that if you paste it into Word ( highlight --> Change Case --> Sentence Case). Open Office Writer can do it, too.

It's fun to imagine these warnings shouted by Sven, the Swedish weather computer.

I like to read them in Billy Mays's voice!

For those interested in some relevant regional history, google for Worcester tornado 1953.

Ron I think this is the first piece of esoteric local knowledge you've spouted that I already know about. Thank you Mass Moments... ;-)

That was before my time, but I do remember the F3 tornado from the fall of 1970, which ripped the roof off the (then) new high school in Barre.

Why was it called 'the F3 tornado' ? (And was that Barre MA or Barre VT?)

It was a force-3 tornado (the 1953 one was force-4). Sorry; I'm a weather geek and used the abbreviation as though everyone knew it.

Barre, Massachusetts.
