I'm sure this seems completely random, and perhaps off topic, but I wonder if anyone out there remembers the "Somerville 02144" skits that used to play on KISS 108. The skit ran the morning after Beverly Hills 90210 was on television and was a spoof of that show, but with Somerville characters. I grew up listening "in the country" as a kid, and now that I live in and love this city, I'd die to hear them again. Know where I could listen to them again? Anyone have memories of a particularly funny show?

Kiss 108's studio is just down Route 16 a bit, at Wellington Circle in Medford. Perhaps someone could drop by the studio and ask about this?

I'm not 100% but I'm pretty sure Jimmy Del Ponte did those skits. If you google him his Facebook page comes up. I can't find a site that is his. So your best bet would be to message him on Facebook and ask him. Even if it wasn't him who did the skits, he worked there at the time and would know, though I'm PRETTY SURE those were his skits.

Great idea Ron. I don't have a Facebook so there was no way I would have been able to contact him. I was 99.99% sure they were his skits. I'm glad he came by the DSLJ community.

Oh god, I loved those skits! I still think of them every time I'm walking past the hipsters in Davis - that and Plunkett bleating "Wasting away again in fuckin' Slummahville!" over at the Purple Shamrock back in the day. XD

HEllo ! My name is Jimmy DelPonte, I am the guy who created , voiced and produced Somerville 02144. I was at Kiss from 1986 to 1998, I also did the voices of Blanche , Larry the Caterer, The Priest, The nun ...etc. I have a few 02144's on cassette in my cellar. I will put them on CD and send you a few. My time is crazy now but send me an email at jimmydel@rcn.com and I will get it rolling. Thanks for your kind words and interest Jimmy

Good to see you here, Jimmy! Any chance you could make those available as MP3 files and put them up on the web, so folks can link to them?

Right now I am running the Sunsetters and Project Star so nothing could be done before the end of August. I am swamped up to me ears.I will start screening the tapes however. Could those mp3's be posted on The Live Journal Site?

No hurry on this. I don't think LiveJournal has any way to host MP3s, but perhaps Internet Archive can do it for you (provided that you give the files a Creative Commons license). I posted David Misch's 1973 song 'Somerville' to the Internet Archive a few years ago, with Misch's permission. You can listen to it here:

I'll see you soon at a Sunsetters performance, perhaps at ArtBeat. What is Project Star?

My recommendation would probably be to upload them to Youtube after digitizing/archiving them.

As a relative newcomer to somerville i'm looking forward to hearing them!

This should be fun. It will give many here a glimpse of the Somerville they have never known. Looking forward to hearing this Jimmy and feeling even older!

This is so great!!!! I used to love those skits on KISS 108. I often thought about then when I moved to the Ville about five years ago.
