Who Works in Davis?
Aug. 28th, 2009 04:26 pmI've been job hunting for the last 2 weeks (Damn lay-offs. Damn them.), and every job I've applied to was either in Cambridge or Boston. I didn't see even one corporate listing in Somerville, at least not in my job category. But I do see what look like office workers here during the day. I've never been inside the handful of office buildings in or around Davis, and I was thinking of popping in to see what companies/organizations occupy them so I could check their websites' career pages. But I thought I'd ask here: does anyone know of any corporate entities or healthy non-profits based in the greater Davis area? Being in administration I can work in lots of industries. Just curious if any of you work an office job in Davis, or know someone who does.

Date: 2009-08-28 09:56 pm (UTC)I don't mean to pass judgments or discount your kindness in any way, but here's something I hope more people learn: when you see a child who's seemingly lost _do not move him from the spot he's at_. Talk to him if you must, but don't move him. His mother is going to look for him, and the first place she's going to look for is where she saw him last (or where she told him to be). If you take him with you somewhere, especially as far as downstairs into the T, you are greatly reducing chances of the speedy reunion and you are making everybody's life difficult in the process -- both the life of the mother, who's likely to die inside ten times over every minute she doesn't see the child and the life of the child who's less likely to see his mom quickly.
If you are worried that the mother is not going to come quickly enough, then wait. Just stay for 10 minutes with him -- if no mom in 10 minutes, then consider looking for the police. Otherwise, just let the parents do their job and find the kid. Also consider this: as cruel as it may seem to let the child continue crying, while he is crying, his mom is more likely to hear him and to find him quicker.
Once again, sorry for this unasked for comment, but please next time if you are in a similar situation, think twice before moving the child somewhere. And I do hope the mother was screaming at him for having followed a stranger. Because you never know who's going to pretend to be a helpful Mary next time.

I wonder if in that Inner Belt region there are more office-type places. While wandering around there once picking up a package at the crazy FedEx outpost, I saw a lot of office-type buildings.
