Condensed Cream of Content:  Musicians visiting for HONK! October 9-11need places to stay.

**please feel free to post or forward this request to anyone who might be interested**

Dear Friends,

First, in case you haven't heard--HONK! is returning!  Columbus Day weekend centered in Davis Square.  Musicians will be arriving on Thursday October 8th and Friday October 9th and will be leaving on Monday October 12th.  We need places for groups of all sizes--singles, doubles, triples, quadruples, and yes, even those places where 25 spirited horn players can rest their weary heads.  Most groups will not be arriving by car this year, so proximity to Davis Square and/or the Red Line is a priority.

We are expecting bands from Vancouver, Oakland, Austin, Chicago, Seattle, Minneapolis, Baltimore, New York, Atlanta, New Orleans, Montreal, Vermont, Providence, Bologna (Italy!) and Rome (Italy!).  And bands range in size from 4 members (only one of these) to 25 (many of these!).  So the need is great.

Can you help?  Please let me know if you can host a musician or two (or 10), your address and telephone number, and precisely what sleeping arrangements you are able to offer.  Your kindness will be recorded in the Great Book of HONK!, and you will be appreciated more than words can tell.

Thank you very much.

Trudi Cohen,
for the HONK! committee

This post isn't excessively long, but in the future, you make an lj-cut like this:

<lj-cut text="Description here">
.....
</lj-cut> (if you want the cut not to go all the way to the end of the post)

You're welcome --- but you need to move the closing tag </lj-cut> after the text you want behind the cut.

Looks fine now, though more terse than necessary ;-)

You're fine, the cut worked.

It was fine a minute ago but now it's not anymore. You have </lj-cut> after "Dear Friends". Take it out. Then it should be fine.

(You're using the Rich Text Editor which is known to cause lots of problems. Using HTML avoids most of them.)

EDIT: now it's fine again.

Perhaps as you place musicians in homes, you could remind your visiting musicians to be more respectful of their host neighborhoods. I, for one, am a bit tired of hearing the saints come marching home all day and all night. Thanks for understanding.

Was that a problem in recent years?

Yes, every year, the party never seems to end.

I live a block from Davis and have not noticed noise at hours when the festival or parade was not actually scheduled. What sort of problems have you seen, and where?

Lots of horns, periodically (not continuously) throughout the night, in the square and just outside of it.

We volunteered to host 2 years ago, and enjoyed it so much, we invited the same musicians last year and again this year. We haven't had any problems with noise. It has been a great opportunity to make some new friends.
