As the subject says I'm sort of new to the Davis Square area. And by that i mean I've lived here for about a year and a half but never really got to explore much. I was in a relationship with someone who never wanted to leave the house. Now that I'm single I'm just starting to really experience the Davis Square area. So i have a few questions if you'd all be so kind.

Where's a good place to get a beer at a decent price? I've been to the Burren a few times for the meet ups. Though i was invited by a friend who's apart of the community. I know there are a few other places in the area but I've never been. I guess I'm looking for a place that also has good food as well. Though sometimes that's asking a bit too much.

Anyone know where i'd be able to find an apartment around Davis Square? I know craigslist is decent for it. But I'm hoping to find some personal insight on this one. I'm really in a pinch right now for the October 1st rush.

Where's a good place to meet some new people? As i said earlier I'm recently single so i've been trying to meet new people. I know this isn't a dating site, and I'm sorry if this question upsets anyone, I'm just curious. I'm new to the bar scene (22 as of this April) so I'm not sure if any of them are good for that. I usually go to the rockband nights but there's not a ton of girls that go (and honestly I'm usually too focused on playing rockband all night heh).

Well i guess that's it for now. Thanks in advance for any comments. I'll try to keep my LJ updated a bit more. My most recent journal entries have been written in pen not bytes. So i apologize for that :p.

It's not in the Davis area, but a friend of mine has a great priced apartment that's really nice in the Central area -- one of his roommates just got a job and moved out to California last minute. Feel free to send me a message with your e-mail and I can put the two of you in touch.

In terms of beer, I'm a huge fan of PJ Ryans and go to their trivia every Tuesday (which is vastly superior to any bar's stump trivia in my opinion). Mike's is also good for a decently priced beer, they'll have $2-3 beer specials for bottles. Joshua Tree isn't necessarily the cheapest beer around, but decently priced all the same and has a great selection on tap -- very few places have Leinenkugel's Sunset Wheat on tap which is my personal favorite -- and has a standard americana food menu as well.

Hope that helps, have fun exploring the area.

Redbones has the best beer selection on tap in the area, as well as great food to go with.

Chicks love a man that can dance:)

Seriously you should take some dance classes. Its a great place to meet people (singles!) and you learn a new skill while you're at it! Salsa is big in this area and Swing is too. A new studio called World Rhythms just opened on 313 Highland ave, and has classes for both. You should check it out it is walking distance form Davis and there is parking int h back if you are driving from Medford! The website is still under construction but calling seems to work- 617-284-6037 - good luck!

Another dance-related possibility for meeting people: the Boston Intergenerational Dance Advocates. They meet at the Masonic Temple off Porter Square to do contra dance and some squares, and they're exceedingly friendly to newbies. As the name suggests, they attract a good cross-section of the community... I've seen folks as young as 15 and as old as I-don't-know there. And it's great exercise.

Why is it called Intergenerational?

Is it for old guys to try to pick up young girls? :-)

That's a weird assumption.

No, it's because the group encourages anyone to enjoy contra dancing regardless of age.

Softball, Football, ultimate frisbee, kickball, cornhole, darts, anything really is available and a great way to meet some people.

Also, rent a room in a house looking for roomates. That is always cheaper than a single or studio and you'll get more for your $$.
