Anyone out there know this status on Bowl and Board.  The lasy 2 days I've walked past and the door has been locked.  No signs about them being closed or closing.  Also, anyone know anything about the new frozen yogurt place Spun.  I can't figure out their hours, some days they're open, some not.  I would think after spending all that money, they would need to generate some revenue.   Do they have set hours?

:( I hope Bowl and Board is ok - I worked in the one in Vineyard Haven all my summers in high school and college. The owners of this family-run business are awesome.

Spun does have hours posted on their door - noon until (I believe) 11 PM, 7 days a week. But, I walk by there at about 1:00 every day and they are RARELY open then. There was a day or two that they had a sign saying they were closed due to electrical problems. Other than that, they do seem to open some time in the afternoon - but not at noon.

Spun has a facebook page, and a twitter account (http://twitter.com/spunyogurt) that they said they were using to announce the flavor of the day, but it hasn't been updated in a week or so. They also list the phone # of 617-863-0860. I went there last weekend and had a tasty snack, but I'm not so sure about the business model.

Its so weird when new business operate this way, every place that opens next to PJ Ryans does this and then goes out of business in a few months, very strange.

Inconsistent hours were also one reason Green Tomato II failed.

According to their website http://www.spunyogurt.com/ their hours are indeed 12 to 11 pm, 7 days a week.
We drove by Spun this morning and there was a CLOSED sign at the door, and the windows were covered w/ paper. I thought it looked like closed for good, but their twitter was updated 2 hours ago, announcing today's flavor (coconut).
Another thing about Spun is that they currently have only one frozen yogurt machine, which means that they can only have two flavors: original and a rotating flavor. When I went there 3 weeks ago, the owner had said that he would see how it goes and potentially add a second machine. I had both the original and coconut and I thought they kinda tasted the same. I liked the variety of toppings.

They were closed for a few days due to electrical problems. They finally put a sign on the door. Today they are open again.

The last thing I heard about Bowl & Board is that they had filed for bankruptcy. NPR did 6 stories on the business http://www.npr.org/templates/story/story.php?storyId=101946050, the last one May 2009, and things unfortunately didn't look too good.

Well, aren't they glad they kicked out McIntyre & Moore's...

I think McIntyre and Moore are glad to be back in a smaller space, with lower rent. That space was just too big and too expensive for them.

Although they have at least temporarily expanded into the first floor where Spark Crafts was.

No idea, but Bowl & Board were closed when I walked by today at 5:45, even though the sign outside says they should be open until 7 on Saturdays.

I was wondering the same thing today. I wouldn't be shocked if it were closed. I must say, as much as I want local businesses to succeed, I had a very mediocre customer service experience there last time I bought something and haven't been back.

Its too bad - it was a great store back in the day.

I was in there (B&B) last week and the cashier happily talked about things she was suggesting to the management re: products. There was no indication that they might be closing so soon. It's too bad.

I know nothing about Bowl & Board, but I've been to Spun, and I was disappointed - I thought the yogurt was kind of flavorless. If you want tart yogurt, I'd recommend the BerryLine on Mass Ave. between Porter and Harvard, or, if you're willing to go that far and have a car, Chill in Cleveland Circle in Brighton.

such a shame, B&B was excellent when it was over between Harvard and Central. For some reason, this location just never had the same appeal.

when it was over in Harvard it had a nice country/homey feel to it. When they moved to Davis it was like they weren't even trying. They kept that gross floor that made the worst impression when you walk in. And they just put their sign over the old M&M sing, leaving it still visible. I mean come on, you gotta do some renovations. I felt like I was going into the Goodwill store.

After 44 years, Bowl & Board is closing its doors.

We would like to thank all of our loyal customers over the years, from the newest students this Fall to those that have been with us for decades, and let you know that we are working hard to finalize any pending orders.

We should have clearer information, for those awaiting items, by the end of this week. If you have an order pending, contact me at bowlandboard@gmail.com to discuss options.

Once again, thank you to everyone who has shopped at Bowl & Board over the past 44 years. Our family is grateful to all of the vendors, shoppers, artisans, and staff for a very good ride.

It was up on the bowlandboard.com website yesterday. Apparently for just a few hours. I also got an email saying the same thing.

Seems odd that they aren't having a going-out-of-business sale to liquidate their inventory.

Probably has something to do with being in bankruptcy.

They might have to have a court approved company come in to do the liquidation.

Too bad that space is being rent gauged. I know that wasn't the reason why they went under as they had other problems, but I am sure it was the last nail in their coffin.

I saw the space on www.loopnet.com and they are trying to get an absurd amount of $ for it.
