Never thought I'd be asking about sports bars, but...

It's basketball season again and because hope springs eternal (and I enjoy suffering) (and am too cheap to get cable), I'd like to find somewhere to go watch my poor Bulls.

Any suggestions this side of the river?

I'm a bar afficiando, but I don't know of any traditional sports bars (that would have the NBA package across many TVs) in the davis square area. I'd call around to some of the bars and see if they have the package. Orleans might have the NBA package, but you'd have to convince them to put it on one of the TVs and that might be a problem.

If I was you, I'd make the trek downtown and go to one of the bars around North Station or hop on the 66 bus from Harvard and hang out at the Sports Depot.

I find that, especially on weeknights, there's always a TV they're willing to change if a patron asks.

Well you'll have to find a bar that not only has a lot tv's but has enough to spare on a team that nobody around here (except for expats like yourself) even cares about. Most bars have the sports packages on their cable system but if the celts are on you can probably forget about it. Around here I know the powder house pub has plenty of TV's and sports packages and so does casey's bar down in east somerville but the same rules apply, hometown teams come first as always. If you want to travel I know the fours in Boston has plenty of TV's and might have a bulls game on (along with every other game broadcast) so good luck. I guess you don't want to buy a sports package yourself?

Spirit on Mass Ave has a LOT of TVs -- they do the satellite package so they'll show several games at once.

Tavern in the Sq in Porter is essentially a sports bar. It seems to be that they usually are playing the same game on most of the channels, but they might be willing to change one if possible.

Orleans has a bunch of big screens and all of the sports packages. I like watching games there.

Beat me to it. Orleans is my "local" and I know they have both a lot of tvs and all the packages: MLB, NHL, NFL, NBA.

There are lots of those, especially around colleges (by that I mean, lots of out-of-town colleges have bars where their fans go watch games together).

Newtowne Grill in Porter Sq has a sign outside that says you can call ahead to reserve a TV for the game of your choice.
