Hi Friends!
You're invited to the next
sprout spaghetti dinner

next Thursday night in Davis Square...

sprout spaghetti dinner is a new dinner theater series sponsored by sprout, that seeks to bring people from the Somerville and Cambridge communities together around good food, music, and performance. Each month, we'll find an eclectic group of performers to explore the month's theme through different lenses. In the tradition of dinners hosted by NYC-based theater company Great Small Works, we want to cast new light on common ideas from artistic, musical, and scientific perspectives. You can find pictures from the last dinners at our blog.

The event will be Thursday, November 19 with dinner at 7:30 and performances starting at 8, at sprout's space just outside Davis Square at 339R Summer St, Somerville, Massachusetts. $10 suggested donation.

This month's performers include ::

- Peter Buchak has been playing accordions for over 15 years. Now, he is also studying the fluid dynamics that make accordion reeds work and has an interesting story to tell as a Ph.D. student in MIT's applied math department. He will be giving two short lectures on the history and science of accordion reeds. In the first, he will talk about how the movement of air around the reed allows the accordion to make its signature sound. In the second, he will be talking about the evolution of the instruments themselves and what this means about the type of music each is used to play.

- Skorosmrtnica is a local Balkan band that will providing music throughout the evening. There might even be room for dancing!

- Mike Romanyshyn is a local composer and performer. He plays clarinet in the Second Line Social Aid and Pleasure Society Brass Band, composes and plays with The Allstar Refjudzi Band in the Czech Republic, and will be performing a new piece for clarinet choir with the help of some other local clarinetists.

- Ben Pasamanick is a local musician and a member of Skorosmrtnica. His personal collection of reeded instruments from around the world will be on display during the performances.

sprout is a group of learners and teachers (Shaunalynn Duffy, Alec Resnick, and Michael Nagle) working to inspire the practice of everyday experimentalism by running science programs that are embedded in the community--drawing inspiration and resources from the people, places, and things that surround us everyday!

We look forward to seeing you!

This sounds like an excellent event. But please put the 'Full Version' behind an
<lj-cut> tag.

It's fine now, thanks. The lj-cut shows up only when you look at the community page, not when you look at (or preview) the individual post.

If you want, you can put text in the lj-cut tag that will display in place of "Read more...", for example:

<lj-cut text="Click here for Full Version">

Ron, kudos for this. Could you please get notloB Music guy to do lj-cuts, too? Pretty please?

I can suggest and implore, but I can't make people listen (nor can I insert my own lj-cuts if they don't)

I'd like to request not having cuts, except for when there are lots of pictures. The cuts are annoying, and waste time making people have to open a whole new link to read a short bit of text.

Understood. (Although you could delete posts that don't have lj-cuts!)

I could, but that's very heavy-handed and results in deleting information that is useful to the community. Generally all of us mods try to be as unobtrusive as possible.

Is it the 17th, or is it next Thursday (which is the 19th)?

What a nice idea for an event series! I can't make it to this one, but do post your next one here!

Ditto! Unfortunately I have a Thursday night class and can't make this one, but hope to start coming once that class ends in December.
