Keys Found

I found a set of keys last night on the bike path between the Highland Park and Willow Ave. When they were still there 5 hours later on my return, I brought them home with me to post here if anybody has lost them. They look like house keys with rewards cards, and were probably clipped to somebody's bag. If nobody has posted claiming them by mid-afternoon today, I will take them in to the police (is that the right place, oh great font of knowledge?).

When this happened to me I posted to Craigslist as well and that found the owner before I would have taken them to the police. But that's probably the way to go, yes. The rewards cards might also be tied to an address, but I wouldn't count on it, I'd let the police handle it. Advice there may vary. I'd definitely try craigslist first if you haven't --- it has much wider readership than this LJ community. :)

IIRC, if there's a CVS rewards card and you use the card for a purchase, the name of the card-holder prints out on the receipt. Then you could look for the person on a white pages website.

I'm looking at my last CVS receipt right now. My name isn't on the actual receipt but it is on a coupon that printed out right below the receipt. So you may get lucky and get a name printed out, or you might not.

lol, the name that prints out on my cvs rewards card is Mr Paul Smithstick - I'm a female. An ex boyfriend filled it out and gave me a rewards card years ago and I never noticed until last year. Some people want to reap the benefits of the card, yet not use their real information.

That's what I did too. I wonder if CVS has been sending any mailings to 132 Fake St.

If you do that, you miss out on occasional useful coupons that they send by postal mail, such as '20% off on everything, 2 days only'.

A lot of the "reward" programs say that you can drop found keys with the tag in a mail box, and they'll be sent to said rewards company then forwarded on to the owner, no idea if they all do this though.

A lot of people don't give valid addresses for their discount cards, so once you drop it in a mailbox, who knows where it ends up. It would be better to give the keys to the police.

I agree that you should take them to the police. You are technically supposed to be able to drop keys in a mailbox if they have frequent shopper cards on them, and then the parent companies are supposed to track down the owner, but who knows if that will happen and how long it will take.

I lost my keys this summer and the person that found them brought them to the Cambridge Planet Fitness (they apparently saw the PF tag on my keys), and the staff called me. However, I did call the police first looking for them.

P.S. To the person that found my keys and took the trouble to bring them to PF, THANK YOU, I have sent a LOT of good karma your way.

I would think that gym membership cards are the most likely to be accurate between cvs, grocery, and other discount cards as they contain an active paid membership most of the time.

Agreed. I am sure none of my rewards cards have my current address, if they ever had a correct one to begin with. Gym membership, OTH, would.

The exact same thing happened to me. When I went to a PF they told me my keys were at the Cambridge location and all was right with the world again.

Thank you people who do that!

You could also post a sign near where you found them... "LOST KEYS -- i found them and gave them to the police" They probably didn't know that they were missing until this morning...

How about asking for a reward?

It would be fair, when you think about it...
