davis_squareMy awesome friend Mike's band, MSB (well, full disclosure: not HIS band, he's just in it.), is playing at Johnny D's Friday night and I highly recommend checking them out!
This is the description from their Facebook page: Acoustic guitar driven-blend of pop/rock with lyrics that often tackle difficult philosophical questions.
Matt’s music style could be compared to a blend of Dave Matthews, John Mayer, U2, Coldplay and Tom Petty. Skope Magazine states that Matt’s music, “would impress fans of artists such as John Mayer, Tom Petty and Jason Mraz.”
Matt recently recruited guitarist Mike Fiore, bassist Hugh Allen, and drummer Dana Bonardi to form the Matt Shwachman Band (MSB). Matt and company have played Arenas, Festival, Colleges and many of New England’s top club venues including The Hard Rock Café Boston, The Middle East (MA), T.T. the Bear’s Place (MA), Harpers Ferry (MA), The Bitter End (NYC), Sullivan Hall (NYC), Arlene’s Grocery (NYC), Doc Watson’s (PA), and the Grog & Tankard (D.C.) to name a few.

And personally, I can't stand John Mayer and I still like them, so don't let that deter you!
It's a $10 cover and starts at 9. I think MSB goes on last, but the other bands seem pretty cool, too, so give them some love!
