Poetic Commiseration This Sunday

Hello,
I know good poetry venues (like good music) have been a solace
to me in the many political disasters of the past few years. When the
war in Iraq started The Lizard Lounge was definitely one of the only
places (even in liberal Massachusetts), where I didn't feel crazy and
alone, where the vast majority of folks agreed that what was going on
was wrong and often had better insights into the situation than all
the news commentators and op-ed columnists combined. I imagine this
Sunday will bring out a lot of similarly articulate outrage
(especially if folks like you bring their work to perform at the open
mike). Come let loose: I'll be doing the same.

This Sunday, performance poet Ren Jender (Cambridge Poetry Award
Winner: 2001 "Best Love Poem" and a member of the 2002 "Best Poetry
Troupe") does a half-hour set of recent writings accompanied by the
acclaimed jazz band The Jeff Robinson Trio. The feature is at 9:30 PM
but the evening starts at 7:30 with an open slam and continues at
about 10:30 PM with an open mike, also accompanied by the Trio.
