Okay, kids. I'm new to the area and wondering what there is to do in Somerville/Cambridge for the post-liberal arts set. Book groups, poetry readings, etc? Generally cool ways to meet people? Much thanks!
Shmooze in the Diesel and express interest in other people's reading matter. It works.
Invite people to a get together in the Diesel or the Someday to talk about your obscure academia topic of choice. cnoocy, for example, speaks Latin with folks.
Sure. :) Once I was hanging out in the Diesel with a friend talking about a NEMLA paper we're working on and mocking overwritten papers. Several hours later I walked back in and a man looked up and said "are you the teleology girl?" We had a long and interesting conversation about teleology. It was great.
Harvard Bookstore hosts readings and events pretty frequently--they've got a mailing list. And the new Porter Square Books (Porter Books?) in the Porter Square mall seems to be following suit.
And (shameless plug) definitely check out Theatre@First (http://www.TheatreAtFirst.org)'s production of T.S. Eliot's Murder in the Cathedral this weekend.
