I have a number of storm window sashes that need repairing - a couple have broken glass or frames, a couple need the springs in the catches replaced. I know these are indicators that I should just replace the whole storm unit, but I don't have the money for that.

Any recommendations for an inexpensive place that will repair these sashes?

Thanks.

Do you have any idea who manufactured the storm windows? The problem that I have run into is that storm window manufacturers, as an example Stormtite in Watertown, will only repair their own windows and if they are an obsolete window then not at all. If you only need glass replaced then Tags might do this for you. If you have damaged latches or frames you might be better off just getting new ones.

Cambridge Glass and Mirror on Rindge Ave is a great place - a real old-fashioned kind of shop. They've put new glass in storm window frames for me in the past, and might be able to do something with the other hardware. But as hikermtnbiker notes, a lot of storm windows aren't really made to be repairable, alas.
